Consumer unit upgrades
The consumer unit, or fuse box, protects every circuit in the property. Older units with rewireable fuses or no RCD protection do not offer the level of protection expected today. A modern consumer unit with RCD or RCBO protection, and surge protection where required, brings this part of the installation up to the current wiring regulations.
Replacing a consumer unit is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations in England. As a NAPIT registered contractor, we can self-certify the work and notify building control, so you receive a Building Regulations compliance certificate as well as the electrical installation certificate.
Full and partial rewires
Signs that a property may need a rewire include old rubber or lead-sheathed cabling, a mix of old and new wiring, not enough sockets, scorch marks or warm accessories, and an EICR that recommends it. A rewire replaces the cabling and accessories so the installation is safe and fit for modern use.
- Full rewires for renovations and older properties.
- Partial rewires for extensions, kitchens or individual circuits.
- Rewires in empty rental properties between tenancies, planned around the letting agent's timetable.
Planning the work
We will walk through the property with you, agree socket and lighting positions, and explain how long the work will take and what disruption to expect. A rewire usually involves lifting some floorboards and chasing walls, so it fits best before decorating.
